The Smart Sussex Passport

What is the Smart Sussex Passport?

The Smart Sussex Passport was set up to encourage sustainable and ethical business in our local area. Selected Businesses fitting our criteria, join our scheme and  agree to give our Smart Sussex Passport holders discount/special offers on their goods or services.

Like who?
The Smart list is growing everyday. First on board were natural beauty products company How on Earth, closely followed by Revolution Tea, Sheep & Chandeliers, I am Natural, and Bourgeois Boheme vegan shoes, Raw Gaia, and Red Mutha. To see a updated list go to ethical shopping page or have a look around the Smart Sussex Pledge Tree.

Does it cost me anything to join?

It is free to add a leaf to our pledge tree to show your support for sustainable business. If you would like to take advantage of the Smart Sussex Passport scheme  the annual subscription fee is £3.99 to cover admin, printing and postage. This fee will be easily recouped by the money saved with our partners businesses. To get your Smart Sussex Passport click here

Will I get inundated with junk mail if I join?
No. We do not give your details to anyone else. We keep it entirely for our own records. We will only send you details of news and offers if you have indicated that you would like to receive them.

Where can I use my card?
At any business on our list either in store or online by using your unique passport number or code we will provide on application.

How long does my passport last?
One year *

I am business, how do I join?
Qualifying Businesses pay a one off admin fee of just £14 to cover the 6 month term.  On joining they agree to offer specified discounts or special offers to all Smart Sussex cardholders. Businesses must agree to stay with the scheme for at least 6 months. You can join on line on the Smart Sussex Pledge Tree page, or contact the office for more information

Does my business qualify?
If you offer a service that is helping sustainable business or if you sell ethical, fair-trade, locally grown or organic products you will probably qualify to join the scheme.

I am an ethical business but cannot offer a discount at this time. Can I join?

You can still promote your business through  the Smart Sussex network by adding a pigeon to the Pledge Tree. The pigeon will link through to your website or info within Smart Sussex pages.

I am a shop that sells mostly ethical products but am not sure all of my products would qualify.
We aim to promote businesses that have the intention of trading ethically and support those in development. If more than 60 % of your products fit our criteria and you are committed to resourcing the remaining items, you will still qualify. We check the credentials of all businesses requesting membership and reserve the right to remove any businesses that we find breaching our guidelines.

* All businesses reserve the right to withdraw from the scheme after a period of 6 month’s
